When word of the Pony Express being formed reached Clay Roswell in Texas, he decided to get a job as a rider. He was told his best chance for employment was along the desert stretch in Nevada Territory, so that was where he headed. Through many misadventures and the Pony Express shutting down, Roswell pursued his goal, eventually meeting telegraph superintendent Jack Casement. He continued to face his challenges head on, a simple man looking for an honest wage.
L.P. Holmes published his first story in 1925 and wrote more than fifty Western novels and over six hundred magazine stories. He received the Spur Award from the Western Writers of America for his 1955 novel 'Somewhere They Die.' Holmes died in 1988.
